What next?

Give me a call for a quick chat, to give some brief details about why you’re seeking counselling, and to see if I am the best person to help.

If I’m away or in another session when you call you may go through to voicemail. In that case you can leave a message with your name and number (or email), and I’ll contact you back as soon as I can.

Or send me an email and I’ll reply (normally within 1 or 2 hours, but always within 24 hours) to arrange a time for our first session.

What happens in our first session?

In our first session I will ask you a little more about what your experience is, your background, and why you’re looking for a counsellor. I’ll ask if you have an idea of how many sessions you would like, or if you’d rather keep it open ended. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions of me and how I work.

At the end you can then decide whether you’d like to book further sessions with me. Read on for more info.

How many sessions will I be offered?

We can have as many or as few sessions as suits you. All I ask is that where possible we agree in advance which session will be our last, so we go into our final session knowing it will be the last. I also tend to hold a reflective session every few sessions, where we can talk about how you feel the counselling is progressing.

How does online counselling work?

I work online using Google Meet. This is a private and encrypted video platform. Once we’ve agreed to meet I’ll send you a link to the meeting. Once you click on the link you’ll be asked to enter a name and then request to join the meeting, and I’ll let you in at the appointed time.

From a computer you don’t need to sign-in or download any software to join the meeting, you can open it easily in a web-browser. From a mobile phone you will either need the Google Meet app, or you can copy the link and paste it into a web-browser in ‘desktop mode’ to access the video without needing to sign into a Google account.

I’ve found online counselling to be as effective as working face-to-face. Plus it has the benefit of being able to use from a variety of locations.

How does in person counselling work?

For face-to-face sessions in Worthing I work the The Counselling Practice in Broadwater. It is easily accessible either from Worthing railway station (10-15 minute walk) or by car. The address is: The Rooms, 14 Evelyn Road, Worthing, BN14 8AY.

For face-to-face sessions in Hove, I work at The Wilbury Clinic, Upper Floors, 109 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2AF. The rooms here are tucked into a little alcove between Property Moves Estate Agents, and Kings Carpets – we are opposite the pedestrian crossing.
